Hello/Intro InitiativeReturn to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. The "Initiative for Corporate Responsibility and Investor Protection" is a new effort in the Granite State to put Ethics in business at the center of public conversation. In this program we'll hear from some of the most well-respected public figures on the issue -- and meet people working on the ground to show that people and profits do mix. The first in a series of forums addressing the need for ethics in education and corporate stewardship took place in early April at the University of New Hampshire. The focus was on corporate scandals, government regulation and the need for companies large and small to develop a culture of ethics. As former Securities and Exchange Commissioner Harvey Pitt explained, it's all about self-interest. |

He says the underlining premise of Sarbanes-Oxley is corporate gatekeeping. The act requires strict accountability by corporate officers. Sporkin told Kandel he has been advocating the gatekeeper concept for more than 30 years. |
